Abstract

Endometriosis is a pathology that frequently causes chronic pelvic pain, and those who live with it may present difficulties in some aspects of sexuality (pain during penetration, vulvar pain, difficulties in desire and/or arousal, etc.). This article addresses, from a gender, diversity and depathologizing perspective, the relationships that operate between two aspects that are embedded in the sexuality of those who live with endometriosis: pleasure and pain, and analyzes the neurobiological and endocrinological processes that underlie sexual interactions in which there is a consensual exchange of power, such as BDSM. It is proposed to think of BDSM as a tool that could enrich the sexuality of people living with endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain due to other causes, improve health in a comprehensive way and in turn could improve their quality of life.
