Improving the quality of male sexual life through laser treatment

Abstract

Summary Pearly penile papules are acral angiofibroma. Asymptomatic, benign, non-infectious lesions located around the male glans. Due to their appearance, they often cause anguish, decreased self-esteem, and difficulties in intimacy with partners. All this leads to a deterioration in the quality of sexual life. Methods This study included male patients with pearly penile papules who received fractionated carbon dioxide laser treatment between April 2017 and December 2022. In 2023, a survey was conducted on those patients with more than one year of evolution after papule treatment. Out of 52 patients treated and with more than one year of evolution post-treatment, 22 patients could be contacted and responded to the survey. Results All patients included in our study reported that their quality of sexual life had greatly improved after pearly penile papules laser treatment. On a scale of 1 to 10, all responded by rating their level of improvement between 5 and 10, with an average of 9.1. Conclusions Pearly penile papules significantly reduce the quality of life of men, especially young men, and deserve medical treatment. Treating pearly penile papules using a fractionated carbon dioxide laser proved rapid, safe, and effective. The elimination of pearly penile papules significantly improves the quality of male sexual life.
